Boy Identified by Family as Teen Killed in Carlsbad Crash; Seven Injured
CARLSBAD, CA (June 26, 2020) – Jack Munday was identified by family members, according to reports, as the teen was who killed in a crash in Carlsbad early in the morning on Wednesday. Munday was 16 years old.
Reports say a vehicle–described as a Toyota 4-Runner SUV–had been traveling on Carlsbad Village Drive with eight occupants who were described as teenagers. For reasons that are not known, the SUV crashed near Valley Street at roughly 2:15 a.m., and rolled over.
One of the passengers died in the crash. Munday was later identified, reports say, by family members.
According to reports, the person driving the vehicle–identified only as a female–and six passengers were injured in the incident. Reports say three people fled the incident site, but returned not long after.
Three people exited the wreck and stayed at the incident site. Responders worked to free one person who was trapped.
Responders transported the patients to local hospitals. The patients suffered minor to serious injuries, report say.
According to police, all of the people involved in the incident are under 18 years of age.
Investigators are continuing to work on understanding the circumstances of the crash.
