Crash Following Pursuit in Palmdale Kills Two People, Injures Others
PALMDALE, CA (June 25, 2020) – On Wednesday night in Palmdale, a crash following pursuit by deputies killed two people and injured others. The June 24 crash occurred in the 1200 block of Avenue S.
The time was roughly 7:45 p.m., according to fire officials and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Report say deputies began pursuing a vehicle in which one of the occupants was considered armed and dangerous, and in connection with a felony incident. The crime that instigated the pursuit has not been described in reports.
The pursuit began at roughly 7:45 p.m., in the vicinity of the 14 Freeway and Avenue S. According to Juanita Navarro, who is a deputy, the deputies involved in the incident ceased pursuing the vehicle out of concern for safety.
A short time later, the vehicle struck a pedestrian. The vehicle crashed off the road and overturned, landing on its side.
Responders arrived and found the pedestrian who had been struck died at the incident site. Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
According to authorities with the fire department, a second person died at the incident site. The identity of the person has not been reported.
Michael Pittman, who is a supervisor with the fire department, said eight people were injured in the incident. Responders transported five victims to the hospital.
Reports say six people–identified only as juveniles–were detained at the incident site. It is not known from reports why they were detained.
The driver of the vehicle that was pursued has not been identified in reports. Investigators are working to collect details regarding the incident.
