Man Dies, Two Injured in Norwalk Crash on 605 Freeway
NORWALK, CA (May 14, 2020) – John Godoy died, and two other people were injured in a crash in Norwalk on Wednesday. The May 13 incident occurred on the 605 Freeway on the northbound side, near Alondra Boulevard and to the north of it.
The time was roughly 5:00 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say two vehicles–described as a Toyota Prius and a Lexus SUV–collided on the freeway, according to Armando Perdomo. Perdomo is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.
The Toyota hit the divider in the center of the freeway, and came to a stop in the carpool. It overturned onto its side. The Lexus also came to a stop in the carpool lane.
Godoy, who had been riding a motorcycle, crashed into the overturned Toyota. The force of the collision shoved the Toyota into the person who had been the driver of the Lexus; the driver had exited the vehicle and was standing nearby. The California Highway Patrol said the Lexus’ driver had been helping the Toyota’s driver when the subsequent collision occurred.
Godoy was killed in the crash and died at the incident site. He was a resident of Santa Ana, 62 years old.
Responders transported the two injured drivers to the hospital. The types of injuries they suffered, and their current condition, are not known.
The drivers were identified only as women. Their names, ages, and cities of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand the circumstances and factors that contributed to the incident.
