On Saturday night, in the early morning hours, two people were killed in a two-vehicle accident that was classified as a hit-and-run in South Los Angeles. The accident took place around 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of Central and Gage avenues.
One of the victims, identified as Armando Aceves, a 47-year-old Covina man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Aceves was a postal employee on his way to work, according to officials.
Aceves was only on the job three months. The accident happened about a block from the post office gates.
The driver in the hit-and-run accident fled the scene on foot with one of his passengers. The other passenger in that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident as well. He was reportedly the driver’s brother. Another passenger in the same vehicle suffered head trauma and is currently in critical condition at a local area hospital. No other injuries have been reported to authorities.
The driver in the hit-and-run vehicle was going as fast as 95 mph when the crash happened. It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident. Toxicology reports will have to be filed once the suspect is located.
It is also unclear whether or not the other driving was speeding or how the impact exactly occurred. Details will be found and shown to the media and public once the police has conducted an investigation of the accident. Paramount on the list is to locate the suspect and the passenger. Their injuries need to be taken care of and catalogued as well.
