Driver Suspected of DUI Crashes in Redlands and Flees with 3-year-old
REDLANDS, CA (April 16, 2020) – On Tuesday, a driver who is suspected of DUI crashed in Redlands and fled the incident site with his 3-year-old son. The April 14 incident occurred on Live Oak Canyon Road in the 31000 block.
The time was roughly 2:30 p.m., Redlands Police said.
Reports say a vehicle crashed, overturned, and went off the road. Responders arrived and found the crashed vehicle had been abandoned.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spotted the driver from a helicopter; the man was down in a ravine with the child roughly a mile from where the crash occurred.
Responders lifted the man and his son into the helicopter to rescue them. They transported the two people to the hospital. According to reports, the boy had injuries that were described as minor.
The man was identified as Jason Paul Napp, a resident of San Bernardino 31 years old. He was arrested on suspicion of child cruelty and child stealing, and driving under the influence, according to reports.
Investigators are continuing their work to collect details and information regarding the incident.
