Woman Killed in Echo Park Crash Involving Wrong-way, Hit-and-run Driver
ECHO PARK, CA (January 27, 2020) – Rosa Garcia was killed in a collision early in the morning on Friday in Echo Park when a wrong-way, hit-and-run driver struck her car. The January 24 incident occurred on Sunset Boulevard.
The time was roughly 7:45 a.m., Los Angeles Police said.
Reports say police are seeking a driver who they believe was involved in the incident. He was identified as Ilya Foks, 39 years old, and probably homeless.
According to a statement from police, Foks had been driving a BMW and heading west on Sunset Boulevard. For reasons that are not known, he traveled into the lanes of opposing traffic and collided with a vehicle—described as a Toyota Corolla—head on. The BMW’s driver then ran from the scene.
Responders arrived and found that a woman had been killed in the crash. She was identified as Rosa Garcia, 61 years old and a resident of Los Angeles.
Reports say people who witnessed the incident recorded video of the suspect driver and he left the incident site. The suspect driver was identified later as Foks. He has blond hair and green eyes, according to a description, and is often in the Silver Lake, Echo Park, and West Hollywood areas.
