Collision in Lake Elsinore Involving School Bus and Van Injures Six People
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (December 16, 2019) – Six people were injured in a crash in Lake Elsinore in the morning on Friday, involving a school bus and a van. The December 13 incident occurred on Morro Way in the 1400 block.
The time was roughly 7:32 a.m., according to Cal Fire Riverside.
Reports say the school bus and the van collided, but the manner in which it occurred has not been described. According to the California Highway Patrol, the person who had been driving the van, and one passenger aboard the van—identified as a girl 5 years old—were seriously injured.
Responders had to work to free the two people who were trapped in the wreckage. The van’s driver was identified only as a man 38 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The current condition of the two victims from the van is not known. Two other passengers in the van suffered injuries that were described as minor. The two other passengers were identified as a girl 10 years old and a boy 2 years old.
According to Mark von Voigt, who is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol, the van was a cargo vehicle with two seats in the front only. The children had not been using seat belts, according to van Voigt.
In the Lake Elsinore Unified School District bus, the driver suffered injuries that were described as minor. The identity of the driver, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
One of the students on the bus, which had been carrying 10 students, suffered injuries that were described as minor.
Investigators are working to understand how the crash occurred, and what factors contributed. No other information is currently available.
