Man Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in South Los Angeles; Video Captured Incident
LOS ANGELES, CA (December 12, 2019) – Last week, Rufino Miranda was killed by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles, and police have released video of the incident to locate the suspect. The December 4 incident occurred close to where 81st Street and Avalon Boulevard intersect, in the neighborhood of Florence.
The time was roughly 9:20 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Reports say video from a surveillance camera recorded the incident, and authorities have released it to locate the suspect. In the video, a Ford Fusion, black in color, can be seen traveling southbound on Avalon. The Ford hits a pedestrian who was walking across the street, according to authorities.
The impact from the crash caused Miranda to hit the hood and windshield of the vehicle the suspect was driving. The person at the wheel continued to drive with Miranda on the car. The suspect then hit the brakes, and Miranda fell to the ground, according to police.
The video shows the suspect’s vehicle traveling in reverse, and the vehicle leaves the incident site. The driver did not stop to help Miranda.
Responders transported Miranda to a hospital. He died from his injuries. Miranda was 47 years old.
