Man Injured by Hit-and-run Driver on Grand Avenue in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (November 7, 2019) – Late Saturday night, a man who was crossing the street on foot in downtown Los Angeles was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver. The November 2 incident occurred on Grand Avenue where Ninth Street intersects.
The time was roughly 11:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Reports say the pedestrian—identified as a man 27 years old—had been walking across Grand Avenue when a vehicle hit him. Video captured by a surveillance camera shows the vehicle—described as a sedan, dark in color—traveling through a light that is believed to be red, swerving to avoid vehicles traveling across the intersection, and hitting the pedestrian.
The force of the vehicle hitting the man threw him into the air. The victim went over the car’s windshield and he fell onto the road. The suspected driver did not stop to help the injured man, but continued to drive away.
Responders arrived and transported the victim to a hospital. The injuries he suffered include ribs that were broken, and knees and hands that were hurt.
The name of the victim has not been reported. His mother—identified as Frances Buenrostro—was reported to have said she was thankful her son survived the incident.
Investigators are continuing to gather details, information, and evidence regarding the incident. They are searching for the suspected hit-and-run driver, and the vehicle involved.
