Man Identified as Person Who Died in Del Mar Collision
DEL MAR, CA (October 31, 2019) – Paul Edward Palmer was identified by authorities as the person who died in a crash in Del Mar on Monday afternoon. The October 28 incident occurred on Camino Del Mar in the 200 block.
The time was roughly 4:00 p.m.
Reports say Palmer had been heading north in a vehicle described as a Honda CRV. For reasons that are not known, he went into the lanes of opposing traffic, and struck another vehicle—described as a Toyota Rav4—in a sideswipe.
Palmer’s Honda continued to travel south and collided with another vehicle—described as a Toyota Preiva minivan—striking it head on.
Responders arrived and pronounced Palmer deceased at the incident site. He was 76 years old and a resident of La Jolla.
Responders transported two people who had been traveling in the Toyota Previa to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. The two people were reported to have suffered injuries that were described as major. Their current condition is not known.
The two people in the Toyota Previa were identified only as a woman 27 years old and a man 28 years old, the Medical Examiner’s Office and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
According to reports, the person who had been travleing in the Rav4 was not injured. She was identified only as 39 years old. Her name has not been reported.
No details have yet been reported on what factors contributed to the incident. Investigators are continuing their work of gathering information.
