Semi Truck Crushes Legs of Security Guard in a San Diego Otay Mesa Freight Yard
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 11, 2019) – On Thursday night, an elderly security guard who was working at a freight yard in San Diego’s Otay Mesa was seriously injured when a semi truck crushed his legs. The October 10 incident occurred on Cactus Court in the 6900 block, near where Siempre Viva Road and Cactus Road intersect, and to the southwest of it.
The time was roughly 11:15 p.m., according to Robert Heims. Heims is an officer with the San Diego Police.
Reports say the man had been working in the yard of a freight company and was standing in between two vehicles described as semi-trailers. According to Heims, the security guard was inspecting the seals on the doors of the rigs while standing at the yard’s gate.
A semi truck—described as a Volvo TR tractor—which was pulling two trailers moved forward. Reports say a wheel in the front of the second trailer went over the legs of the security guard.
The security guard suffered injuries which included crushing to his right leg, and an open fracture. Responders transported him to a hospital.
He was identified only as 81 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported. His current condition is not known.
The driver of the semi truck was identified only as a man 50 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand the circumstances of the incident by collecting information and details.
