Multi-vehicle Crash Involving Big Rig on 605 Freeway in Long Beach Causes Injuries
LONG BEACH, CA (September 17, 2019) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a big rig early in the morning on Tuesday caused injuries on the 605 Freeway in Long Beach. The September 17 incident occurred on the freeway’s southbound side, close to Willow Street.
The time was roughly 1:30 a.m.
Reports say the big rig and another vehicle—described as a Toyota Corolla—collided. The impact of the crash sent the truck to overturn, which then made the engine block break away and hit another vehicle.
The third vehicle involved in the incident was described as a BMW, according to Anthony Soriano. Soriano is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.
Responders arrived on scene and took the driver of the BMW and the driver of the Toyota to a hospital in the area. The injuries the two victims suffered were described as minor. The identities of the two people, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the big rig suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person received treatment at the incident site and did not want to go to a hospital.
Investigators are working to understand what factors contributed to the crash. The sequence of events that caused the initial collision are not known. For a period of time, all southbound lanes of the freeway were closed.
