Vehicle Hits Bicyclist on Eastgate Mall Road in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 6, 2019) – On Thursday night, a bicyclist was struck and injured by a vehicle in San Diego’s University City area. The September 5 incident occurred on Eastgate Mall Road in the 4400 block.
The time was roughly 7:40 p.m., Michael Tansey said. Tansey is a sergeant with the San Diego Police.
Reports say the bicyclist—identified only as a woman 22 years old—had been going eastbound on Eastgate Mall Road, and she went from the bike lane into the crosswalk. The bicyclist turned in front of the path of a vehicle that had been heading east, reports say.
The vehicle, described as a Honda Pilot, struck the bicyclist. The victim suffered injuries that were described as life threatening. Responders transported her to a hospital. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the vehicle was identified only as a woman 36 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work to gather information and details regarding the accident.
