Car Collides with Train in Kingsburg, Killing Man
KINGSBURG, CA (August 23, 2019) – On Wednesday night, a man was killed in Kingsburg when the car he was driving collided with a train. The August 21 incident occurred close to where Simpson Street and Sierra Street intersect.
The time was roughly a little before 5:00 p.m.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Honda Civic—collided with a Union Pacific train, which had been heading south. According to Kevin Pendley, who is a sergeant with the Kingsburg Police Department, the investigation appears to show that the driver had attempted to go around the closed crossing arms. The man’s vehicle was then hit by the train.
The identity of the driver, including his name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
According to reports, no one on the train was injured.
An earlier fatal collision involving a train occurred on the same day, and only a few miles away. In the earlier collision, one person was killed in Selma near Golden State Boulevard and Front Street. No details have been reported on the earlier collision, and the victim has not been identified.
Investigators are continuing their work to gather details and information.
