15 Year Old Boy Dragged 1,500 Feet by Hit-and-run Driver in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 7, 2019) – Roberto Diaz, 15 years old, was dragged 1,500 feet by a hit-and-run driver on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. The August 6 incident occurred in the neighborhood of South-Central, on Maple Avenue close to East 37th Street.
The time was roughly a little before 9:00 p.m., according to Moses Castillo. Castillo is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Reports say Diaz had been on his bicycle and riding in a crosswalk when a driver, who did not seem to stop at the stop sign, hit him.
Responders arrived and found Diaz on the road, close to where East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Woodlawn Avenue intersect. According to Castillo, the hit-and-run driver dragged Diaz roughly 1,500 feet until his body came loose from the vehicle.
Responders transported Diaz to a hospital. According to Castillo, he suffered injuries that were described as very severe. His condition was described as critical, but stable.
People who witnessed the incident said the vehicle involved stopped briefly when witnesses followed it, but the driver then fled the accident site. The vehicle involved is a Honda Accord or Honda Civic, dark blue in color with windows that are tinted. The driver has not been described.
Investigators are continuing their search for the driver and the vehicle. If anyone has information regarding the incident, he or she should contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
