Man Drives Burning Car into Gas Station in Fresno, Setting it on Fire
FRESNO, CA (July 18, 2019) – On Tuesday, a man drove a car that was burning into a gas station in Fresno, causing the gas station to catch fire. The July 16 incident occurred at the corner of West Gettysburg Avenue and North Blackstone Avenue, where the Union 76 station is located.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
Reports say the person involved—identified as Russell Howard Hernandez, 45 years old and a resident of Fresno—drove the car while it was burning into the gas station. According to reports, Hernandez was hurt in the incident, with his injuries described as minor.
Authorities arrested Hernandez on driving under the influence (DUI), and arson.
The owner of the gas station has not been identified in reports. The extent of the damage to the gas station is not clear.
It is not known from reports why the car was on fire before Hernandez drove into the gas station. Investigators are working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
