Woman Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in Riverside County
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA (July 11, 2019) – Charline Wells was killed by a hit-and-run driver as she was walking in Riverside County on July Fourth. The incident occurred on Sylvester Road.
The time was near midnight.
Wells had been walking on Mission Trail, heading south. Surveillance video that captured the incident shows Wells stumbling into a lane. On Sylvester Road, she was in the street when a truck came toward her. Video shows the truck hitting her, and leaving the accident site.
Wells died from her injuries. She was 42 years old, and a mother of five.
The video, reports say, was captured by cameras at Stauffer’s Lawn Equipment. According to reports, Bruce Stauffer, who owns the business, looked through the footage when he heard of the incident to see if the hit-and-run had been recorded. He offered the video to investigators with the Riverside County Sheriff.
The vehicle involved has not been described in reports, nor has the driver. Investigators are continuing their search through details and evidence to locate the suspect driver.
