Vehicle Smashes into Apartment in Los Angeles, Killing Sleeping Woman
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 3, 2019) – A vehicle smashed into an apartment building early in the morning on Wednesday in South Los Angeles, killing a sleeping woman. The July 3 incident occurred on Main Street in the 8700 block, in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Broadway-Manchester.
The time was roughly 5:00 a.m., Nicholas Prange said. Prange is a spokesperson with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Reports say a woman had been sleeping in her apartment with her son, who is 4 years old, and a vehicle smashed through the building’s wall, killing her. According to Joe Lopez, who is a battalion chief with the fire department, when firefighters responded to the scene, they found a fire burning as a result of the crash.
The firefighters extinguished the fire. Responders also had to work to extricate two occupants from the wrecked vehicle. The victims were identified as a woman and a man. The woman was identified as the driver. According to Lopez, both victims were in critical condition. The types of injuries they suffered have not been reported. Their identities, including names and cities of residence, have not been reported.
According to reports, the woman who had been at sleep was hit by debris from the building when the vehicle smashed into it. The woman inside the apartment was killed in the incident, according to Jon Pinto. Pinto is a captain with the Los Angeles Police Department. The woman was identified as 45 years old. Her name has not been reported.
Responders took the woman’s son to a hospital in the area. The injuries he suffered were described as minor.
Investigators are trying to determine what led to the crash. At this time, no other details are known.
