Collision Involving Two Scooters on Boardwalk in Mission Beach Kills Man
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 24, 2019) – A collision involving two scooters that had been traveling on a boardwalk in Mission Beach killed a man in the afternoon on Sunday. The June 23 incident occurred on Ocean Front Walk in the 3300 block.
The time was roughly 1:35 p.m., according to Robert Heims. Heims is an officer with the San Diego Police.
Reports say two people had been riding electric Lime scooters and were traveling next to one another. For reasons that are not known, Heims said, their bodies hit each other and the two riders lost control of the scooters.
Both people fell onto the boardwalk. One of the people involved—identified as a woman 22 years old—suffered scrapes to her legs. Her name has not been reported, and her current condition is not known.
The other person involved—identified as a man 48 years old—also suffered injuries to his legs that were described as scrapes. The man also said he was feeling pain in his chest. Responders transported the injured man to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to Heims, the San Diego County Medical Examiner is working to discover the cause of death. The victim’s name has not been reported.
