Driver Suspected of DUI Hits Woman in Garden Grove
GARDEN GROVE, CA (June 21, 2019) – A driver who is suspected of DUI struck and seriously injured a woman late in the afternoon on Tuesday in Garden Grove. The June 18 incident occurred on Larson Avenue in the 8000 block.
The time was a little after 5:30 p.m., Carl Whitney said. Whitney is a lieutenant with the Garden Grove police.
Reports say the victim had been standing behind her vehicle when the suspected driver struck her. When responders arrived, they found the victim was trapped against her vehicle.
According to Whitney, the suspected driver attempted to leave the scene, but he smashed into another car not far from the initial crash.
The victim—identified as a woman 66 years old and a resident of Garden Grove—was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. Her condition was described as critical. Reports say doctors had to amputate her legs. Her name has not been reported.
The driver involved in the incident—identified as Andres Ramon Salas, 35 years old and a resident of Garden Grove—was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Investigators are continuing to work on the details and information regarding the incident.
