Woman Killed in Hemet Crash Involving Driver Suspected of DUI
HEMET, CA (June 12, 2019) – Victoria Fleming was killed in a crash involving a driver suspected of DUI in Hemet on Sunday night. The June 9 incident occurred where Commonwealth Avenue and Lyon Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 6:40 p.m., according to the Hemet Police Department.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Ford pickup—had been traveling eastbound on Commonwealth Avenue. According to police, the driver of the pickup truck did not stop at a stop sign. The pickup traveled into the intersection where it collided with the Nissan, which had been traveling on Lyon Avenue heading north.
Responders arrived on scene and found that the driver of the Nissan had suffered critical injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the accident site. She was identified as Victoria Fleming, 61 years old.
Responders transported the person who had been driving the pickup truck to a hospital in the area. The driver had suffered injuries that were described as moderate. He was identified as Todd Schmidt, 53 years old and a resident of San Jacinto.
Reports say that investigators think prescription medication and illegal drugs may have played a role in the crash, according to Hemet Police. It is not known from reports if an arrest was made.
Investigators are continuing their examination of the facts in the incident. Currently, no other details have been reported.
