Woman Struck by Vehicle While Filling Gas Tank on Henderson Avenue in Porterville
PORTERVILLE, CA (May 30, 2019) – A woman who had been standing to the side of West Henderson Avenue and filling a gas tank was struck by a vehicle in Porterville. The May 28 incident occurred close to Balmayne Drive.
The time was roughly midnight.
Reports say the woman—identified as Cristal Mena, 26 years old—had been driving a vehicle which ran out of gas. She stopped on West Henderson Avenue at the curb on the eastbound side of the road. According to reports, the vehicle did not have lights activated.
While Mena was standing on the driver’s side of the vehicle and filling gas from a container into the tank, another vehicle that had been heading eastbound on Henderson veered around the stopped car. The other vehicle struck Mena.
Respondents transported Mena to a hospital by airlift, according to police. She suffered injuries that were described as moderate. Her current condition is not known.
The person who had been driving the vehicle that struck Mena stayed at the accident site and cooperated with the investigation.
According to Porterville Police, the vehicle Mena had been driving was reported to have been stolen from Porterville. Authorities discovered that Mena, and the person who had been traveling as a passenger with her—identified as Mark Martin, 25 years old—had arrest warrants that were outstanding.
According to authorities, credit cards and checks that were stolen and forged were discovered in the suspected stolen vehicle. Investigators are continuing to examine the details of the incident.
