Driver Suspected of DUI Smashes into Residence in Simi Valley
SIMI VALLEY, CA (May 1, 2019) – A person suspected of driving under the influence crashed into a residence in Simi Valley in the afternoon on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Royal Avenue in the 2200 block.
The time was roughly 4:15 p.m., according to Simi Valley Police.
Reports say a man who was driving a van struck a vehicle that had been parked on the street. The van then smashed into a home’s garage, according to Sergeant Patrick Vayicek.
A witness said the driver attempted to back out of the garage and leave the crash site, but bystanders stopped him. According to officials, the driver seemed intoxicated, and he was given an initial screening.
Respondents transported the driver to Los Robles Regional Medical Center. The injuries he suffered were described as moderate. After being treated, the driver was booked on suspicion of DUI. He was identified as Gonzalo Navarro, Jr., 54 years old and a resident of Sylmar.
According to Vayicek, no other person was injured in the incident.
Safety inspectors said the garage had structural damage that was significant enough to make it unsafe. Investigators are continuing their examination of the incident.
