Driver of Suspected Stolen Vehicle Crashes into Pole, Flees on Foot Through San Marino Neighborhood
SAN MARINO, CA (April 30, 2019) – The driver of a suspected stolen vehicle smashed into a light pole, and then fled on foot through the San Marino neighborhood on Monday morning. The April 29 incident occurred on Monterey Road in the 3400 block.
The time was roughly 10:30 a.m., according to the San Marino Police Department.
Reports say the vehicle went out of the driver’s control, and overturned. It then crashed into the pole. The person driving had been the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash. He exited the vehicle, and was carrying a bag according to a witness who approached the man to help him. The driver ran away. Witnesses saw the man enter a residence’s backyard located on Shenandoah Road in the 1600 block.
Officers located the suspect hiding in bushes on Virginia Road in the 1600 block. He was taken into custody by police. According to reports, the driver was identified as Paul Lee PJ Martin, 29 years old.
Respondents arrived and took Martin to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. His current condition has not been reported. No one else was reported to have been hurt in the incident.
Authorities said the vehicle the suspect had been driving was reported stolen from Los Angeles. Martin faced charges of grand theft auto and hit-and-run.
