Multiple Collisions on Highway 101 in Nipomo Snarl Traffic
NIPOMO, CA (April 9, 2019) – Multiple collisions on Highway 101 Sunday afternoon in Nipomo caused traffic snarls. The April 7 crashes—at least two in number—occurred on the northbound side of the highway.
The time of the first collision was roughly 12:16 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. It occurred close to the offramp for Tefft Street. Two vehicles—described as Lexus and a Ford—collided.
The time of the second collision was roughly 12:31 p.m., and also occurred close to the offramp for Tefft Street. Three vehicles—described as a Toyota, a Saturn, and a Subaru—collided.
None of the drivers have been identified, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. It is not known if anyone else had been traveling in any of the vehicles that collided.
Reports say that one person suffered injuries that were described as minor. The injured person has not been identified. It is not known if anyone else was hurt in the incidents.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crashes occurred as traffic backed-up on the road. Vehicles may have been following too close and traveling at a speed that was not safe for the conditions, reports say. Investigators are looking into the details for the crashes to find out what caused them.
