One Person Killed in Two-vehicle Collision in Balboa Park in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 26, 2019) – One person died in a a collision involving two vehicles early in the morning on Saturday in Balboa Park. The March 23 accident occurred on State Route 163.
The time was a bit after 2:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say the vehicles collided on the southbound side of the road, close to Quince Drive, and to the south of it. According to witness reports, the vehicles ended up on the road’s shoulder, and one of the vehicles possibly rolled over.
According to Brent Lowry, who is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol, one of the two cars involved, which was described as a Mazda, had been occupied by a driver and two passengers. The Mazda sedan’s driver had been working for Lyft at the time of the collision.
The other vehicle involved in the collision was described as a Lexus sedan. The driver was the sole occupant. According to Lowry, the impact threw one of the occupants from the Mazda. It is not known if the person had been a driver or a passenger when he or she was thrown from the vehicle.
Reports say one person who had been traveling as a passenger in the Mazda was killed. Three people suffered injuries that were described as moderate to major. Respondents transported the victims to a hospital. The types of injuries the people suffered in not known. Their current condition has not been reported.
The identities of each person involved in the crash has not been reported, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence. No details have been reported on what circumstances led to the crash. Investigators are examining the details and information.
