Two-vehicle Crash Kills One Person, Injures Two Others Near Big Bear

BIG BEAR, CA (March 14, 2019) – A two-vehicle collision in the morning on Wednesday near Big Bear killed one person and injured two others. The March 13 accident occurred on Highway 18, in an area between the towns of Running Springs and Big Bear Lake.

The time was roughly 9:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Reports say that a vehicle, described as a Honda Civic, and another vehicle, described as a Chevrolet Tahoe, collided. The Honda had been heading northbound on Highway 18 and the Chevrolet had been heading southbound on the highway. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Chevrolet had been traveling at approximately 40 miles per hour at the time of the collision, and the Honda had been traveling at an unknown speed.

California Highway Patrol reports that the person who had been driving the Honda—identified as a man 31 years old and a resident of Elk Grove—lost control of the vehicle. The Honda drifted into the lane of oncoming traffic. The Chevrolet—driven by a person identified as a man 80 years old and a resident of Big Bear Lake—collided with the Honda.

A person who had been traveling as a passenger in the front of the Honda was killed. California Highway Patrol says she died at the accident scene. She was identified as 22 years old and a resident of La Habra.

Respondents took the Honda’s driver to Bear Valley Community Hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as major. Reports say that the Chevrolet’s driver suffered injuries that were described as minor.

The names of the people involved in the accident have not been reported. Investigators are examining the details and information to understand the circumstances that led to the accident.
