Driver in Suspected Stolen Vehicle Hits Train and House in Highland Park While Evading Police
HIGHLAND PARK, CA (February 21, 2019) – A person driving a vehicle that police suspect was stolen hit a Metro train and then ricocheted, smashing into a Highland Park house while attempting to flee. The February 20 accident occurred on North Figueroa Street in the 5000 block.
The time was roughly 5:18 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Reports say that a vehicle—described as a 2013 Lexus—collided with a Metro Gold Line Light Rail Train. The force of the impact caused the Lexus to ricochet, and the Lexus then smashed into a car that was parked and a house located beside the tracks.
Police took the suspects—identified as a man and three juvenile females—into custody. Tony Im, who is an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department—said none of the suspects were hurt. The identities of the suspects, including their names, ages, and cities of residence have not been reported.
The person who owns the house that was struck had been at home at the time of the accident. According to the homeowner, the crash violently shook the house. She ran outdoors and saw police were making arrests. The woman said her brother owned the car that was parked that the suspects’ vehicle struck. Reports say that the parked car was damaged as well as the house’s garage.
Investigators are continuing to examine the details, evidence, and information regarding the incident.
