Eight Vehicles Destroyed in Suspected Intentional Fire at Anaheim Apartment Complex
ANAHEIM, CA (February 1, 2019) – A suspected intentional fire at an apartment complex in Anaheim destroyed eight vehicles and damaged ten others early in the morning on Thursday. The January 31 incident occurred on South Brookhurst Street in the 1200 block.
The time was roughly 4:00 a.m, according to the Anaheim Fire Department. Firefighers were able to extinguish the flames in less than an hour. The heat from the fire—which reports say was extreme—destroyed eight vehicles and damaged ten others. Flames did not touch the apartment structure, but footage from video revealed that in some apartments close to the fire, blinds had melted.
According to reports, a person who lives at the apartment complex—identified as Ronaldo Medina—said his van was the target of the fire. Medina said that three separate times—over the span of roughly a little over a year—vandals had damaged his van.
Medina said he did not know why vandals were targeting him. He expressed a hope that video from surveillance cameras would yield information.
Another person who witnessed the incident said the fire erupted very rapidly, and the vehicles were engulfed. Vishal Kotru is reported to have said he thought it was a molotov cocktail.
No one was reported hurt in the incident. Investigators are examining the details, information, and evidence to find answers.
