Vehicle Hits and Kills Pedestrian in Stanton
STANTON, CA (January 2, 2019) – A vehicle hit and killed a man who was walking in Stanton on Tuesday night, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The January 1 accident occurred where Cerritos Avenue and Magnolia Avenue intersect.
According to Mike Tanabe, who is a lieutenant with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was struck by a vehicle that had been driven by Amgad Anwar, an 18 year old. Anwar stayed at the accident scene and offered his cooperation to investigators. The type of vehicle that Anwar had been driving has not yet been reported.
Responders took the victim—identified as a man in his 60s—to UCI Medical Center. He died later in the hospital. The man’s name, and city of residence have not yet been reported.
According to Tanabe, authorities do not think drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident. No arrest was made. It is not known if the pedestrian had been walking in a crosswalk.
Investigators are examining the details, scene, and information to understand why the accident occurred.
