Multi-vehicle Crash in Costa Mesa on 55 Freeway Kills One Person
COSTA MESA, CA (December 5, 2018) – A crash Tuesday night in Costa Mesa on the 55 Freeway involving four vehicles killed one person. The December 4 collision occurred close to the off-ramp for Del Mar Avenue, Todd Kovaletz said. Kovaletz is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.
The time was roughly 6:10 p.m.
Respondents arrived on scene and found that one person was killed in the crash. Several other people involved in the accident were hurt, and responders took them to the hospital.
Joyce LaPointe, who is a lieutenant with the Costa Mesa Police, said that one person fled that accident scene. Officers from California Highway Patrol found the person at roughly 7:50 p.m. in his vehicle close to where Georgetown Lane and Vanguard Way intersect in Costa Mesa.
According to Kovaletz, the man was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony hit and run. No details have yet been reported on the man’s name, age, city of residence, or the type of vehicle he was driving, and whether he was injured.
