Vehicle Hits Firefighters on 15 Freeway in Ontario Who Had Been Helping Crashed Driver
ONTARIO, CA (November 30, 2018) – While providing assistance to a driver involved in a crash on the 15 Freeway in Ontario, four firefighters were struck by a vehicle in the morning on Thursday. The firefighters may also have been hit by a third vehicle, reports say, in the November 29 incident.
The firefighters had responded to a crash that occurred at roughly 9:31 a.m. Marcelo Llerana, who is an officer with the California Highway Patrol, said that at 9:44 a.m., CHP received calls of the subsequent crash.
Reports say that in the first accident, a vehicle had spun around on the 15 Freeway on the northbound side in Ontario. The accident site was close to the 10 Freeway.
Four firefighters from the Ontario Fire Department were helping at least one victim when the subsequent collision occurred, according to Mike Gerken. Gerken is a Battalion Chief. Two vehicles, which have not been described, crashed into the site where the fiirefighters were assisting the first crash victim.
Responders transported two people to the hospital, and two people received treatment at the accident scene. According to officials, the two firefighters who had been hospitalized were released in the afternoon.
The identities of the people involved in the crashes have not yet been reported. It has also not yet been reported if other people were injured.
