Crash Kills Elderly Man in Simi Valley
SIMI VALLEY, CA (November 19, 2018) – An elderly man was killed after a series of collisions late in the morning on Saturday in Simi Valley. The November 17 accident occurred in the Wood Ranch area.
The time was roughly 11:30 a.m., according to Simi Valley police.
Reports say that a vehicle—described as a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV—struck the rear end of another vehicle on Madera Road at Wood Ranch Parkway. The vehicle struck had been in a left turn lane on the southbound side of the street.
According to police, the collision, which occurred at a slow speed—caused damage that was only minor to the vehicle that was struck. No one was reported injured in the first crash.
Police say that the person who was driving the SUV then sped away from the accident scene, heading south on Wood Ranch Parkway, and going fast. The driver—identified as a woman 78 years old and a resident of Simi Valley—struck a tree located on North Lake Park Drive.
The driver suffered injuries that were described as non life threatening. A passenger traveling with her—identified as her husband, 87 years old—died.
No details have been reported on the names of the people involved in the two crashes.
Investigators are looking into the details to determine what caused the accidents to happen.
