MALIBU, CA (July 8, 2018) – A man died Sunday evening when a car hit him as he was crossing Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The accident occurred roughly at 8:45 p.m. on Highway 1, not far from County Line Beach.
The man, who was described in reports as middle-aged, was attempting to walk across the highway in an area a little south of Yerba Buena Road. The stretch of highway where the accident occurred was between Tonga Street and Neptune’s Net.
The area where the pedestrian was trying to cross PCH is not a marked crosswalk. Califoronia Highway Patrol says beachgoers often cross in that area to go to the beach.
A vehicle, described as a Chevrolet van, was heading northbound on Pacific Coast Highway when it hit the man.
Responders gave the injured man medical attention at the accident scene. Authorities pronouned the victim deceased. The man was not identified in reports.
According to reports, Sunday night had a foggy atmosphere in the area.
Investigators are examining the details to find out what caused the accident.
