Long Beach, CA. – Teen Boy Struck and Injured at Market Street and Olive Avenue

Long Beach, CA (June 5, 2018) – Long Beach Police Department has announced the arrest of a man who is suspected of driving under the influence of marijuana after he struck and injured a 15-year old boy in Long Beach Tuesday morning June 5th. Officers were summoned to respond to an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a teenage boy near the intersection of Market Street and Olive Avenue around 7:30 a.m. According to authorities, 19-year old Christopher Rodriguez-Inigo of Long Beach, was traveling eastbound on Market Street in a 2009 Ford Flex where he approached Olive Avenue.
As the Ford Flex closed in on Olive Avenue, the 15-year old boy was crossing Market Street in a pedestrian cross walk with no traffic signal when he was struck. First responders arrived to find a 15-year old boy lying in the street suffering from critical injuries sustained in the collision. The teenage boy was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where he was treated and listed in critical condition. His name was not released due to his age.
Rodriguez-Inigo remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. “A department Drug Recognition Expert responded to the scene and determined that he was possibly driving under the influence of cannabis,” a news release read. Rodriguez-Inigo was arrested at the scene and taken to Long Beach Police Department where he was booked on suspicions of felony driving under the influence of a narcotic and was being held on $100,000 bail.
