Two victims of a hit and run accident have been seriously injured when a car hit them on Monday, July 16 in Carmichael. The couple had sustained serious personal injury. Sadly, four dogs were with them and none of which survived the hit.

Gemily West, 23, and her boyfriend Harrison Randall, 21, had gone for a late night jog with West’s four dogs. Sometime after 10 p.m., the couple decided to head back to their car. As they were crossing with their dogs across Garfield Avenue at Engle Road, a driver in a car came at them. The two pedestrians believed that the car was going to turn left and away from them so they continued to cross the street. Instead, the vehicle continued straight at a high rate of speed, hitting the couple and killing the four dogs.

The vehicle is believed to be either a 1986 or 1987 light brown Nissan Maxima or Stanza sedan. The automobile had sped right through a stop sign without even slowing down and knocked the sign over. Then, the driver hit Randall, West, and all four Australian cattle dogs with them.

As a result, all four dogs died on the scene. Randall’s leg was severed from the impact of the hit and West suffered from a broken leg.

One witness to the incident, Corrina Aggee, told reporters that she had seen the whole incident. She said that after the car hit the couple and their dogs, she looked across the street and saw Randall’s leg. She then vomited before running over to the victim with a pillow. She said that Randall actually looked at her and told her “I’m going to be okay.”

After the hit, the two victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital to be treated. Randall had at least three surgeries done. His girlfriend, West, is expected to start rehabilitation work in the hospital on Thursday. It will be a few more days before she is released.

Investigators believe that Randall had suffered greater injuries because he had tried to protect his girlfriend from the impact. West’s brother told officials that her boyfriend, Randall, was a hero for pushing her out of the way. If he had not pushed her, she would have taken the full impact, and she would have died.

The automobile fled the scene at a high speed. Officers believe that either the driver panicked or that the individual fled the scene because he or she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact North Sacramento CHP or the CHP Sacramento Communication Center. The automobile is believed to have moderate damage to the driver’s front side as well as a missing driver’s side rearview mirror. The left side running lights and turn signals will be damaged as well.

If you have been a pedestrian and received personal injury from a careless driver, you are entitled to seek compensation for your pain and suffering. Call a Sacramento personal injury lawyer today and don’t let the guilty party get away with this injustice.
