SUV Accident Claims Two Lives

Posted on July 31, 2012

Auto accidents can happen without warning. One minute you’re driving along the 405 Freeway; the next minute, your vehicle is colliding with a wrong-way driver.

Two people were killed and two others injured early Tuesday when their SUV dropped 100 feet and landed on a transition road on the opposite side of the 10 Freeway in East Los Angeles.

Driver Christine Meng, 22, of San Gabriel, failed to round a turn while traveling at an unknown rate of speed around 1 a.m., flying over a wall and dropping to the transition road between the westbound 10 Freeway and the southbound 710 Freeway.

No other vehicles were involved in this deadly, single-car accident.

Two San Gabriel men -– Joseph Almario, 21, and Manolo Magat, 23 -– were killed, and Meng and another passenger, Jason Lieu, 22, were taken to the hospital.

Meng was charged with a felony DUI and faces possible vehicular manslaughter charges.

The accident is still under investigation.
