Driver Suspected of DUI Hits and Kills Pedestrian on Bristol Street in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, CA (June 24, 2020) – A driver suspected of DUI struck and killed a pedestrian in Santa Ana on Tuesday afternoon. The June 23 incident occurred where McFadden Avenue and Bristol Street intersect.

The time was roughly 1:10 p.m., according to Anthony Bertagna, who is a corporal with the Santa Ana Police.

Reports say a man had been walking across Bristol Street, and was wandering about in an erratic manner. He is reported to have changed direction, and begun walking the opposite way.

A vehicle–described as a BMW, white in color–had been going southbound on Bristol. The light at the intersection was green for the driver, according to reports, when the driver struck the pedestrian. Reports do not say if the pedestrian had been walking inside a crosswalk.

The pedestrian died in the incident. He was identified only as in his thirties. His name and city of residence have not been reported.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. His identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.

Investigators are working to collect details and information regarding the crash.
