Posted on August 3, 2013

A prominent restaurant owner in Long Beach caused a deadly accident that killed one motorcyclist and seriously injured another on Friday evening.

St. Patrick's Day Collision 1 of 4

Police say Nicholas Limer, 68, a well-known businessman and restaurant owner, crashed his Toyota Sequoia into the two cyclists. It is unclear why he slammed into the two cyclists and why one survived with minor to moderate injuries and the other perished in the accident. The authorities have not stated whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

The deceased, 35-year-old Taryn Hawk, and the injured man, 30-year-old Joseph Daroza, both live in Huntington Beach.

The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Glendora Avenue.

Investigators have described the accident as having been with the cyclists, who are reportedly best friends. They were on Harley Davidsons and they were attempting to cross Glendora Avenue with a green light for their direction.

Since the accident, Daroza has been home and he is progressing well physically. His wife spoke to reporters regarding the accident.

Everyone involved in the accident lives within a few blocks of the scene of the traffic collision.

“The driver could face charges up to vehicular manslaughter, depending on the entire case, and the circumstances the detectives get through their investigation,” said Sgt. Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police Department.

Apparently, the D.A.’s office will receive the case later this week so that they can begin prepping for the charges and the trial that is expected to take place. If the detectives involved in the case find evidence of drunk driving, there could be reckless driving and DUI charges included in the indictment.
