Posted on April 5, 2014

Police Chase Ends With 12-Year-Old DeadA 12-year-old girl is dead today after a police chase ended tragically, also injuring the girl’s mother and sister.

The pursuit started about 6:!5 p.m. Thursday after a 26-year-old man led Westminster police on a brief chase. The man broadsided the minivan after the brief pursuit. The police tried to pull over the driver, Aleksander Apostoloic, on drug trafficking and weapons charges

Apostoloic rammed the patrol car with his vehicle instead of stopping, and then sped off northbound on Olive St., police said.

A few minute later, the man tried to turn left onto Trask Ave. when he broadsided the minivan carrying the mother and her two daughters.

The woman and girls were rushed to local hospitals. Police said the 12-year-old girl, Vivian Nguyen was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

After the accident, Apostoloic fled the scene. Police and helicopters scoured the area for him. About 11:55 p.m. that night, a woman who lived in the area called 911 to report a man inside her home.

Apostoloic ran out the back of the house and was hiding behind some bushes. He was booked on suspicion of murder, evading arrest and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as the previous drug trafficking and weapons charge.

The names and conditions of the mother and other daughter have not been released.
