A Chevrolet S10 truck lost control on the slippery roads traveling northbound on Brea Canyon east of Tonner Canyon Road at about 7:30 a.m. when rain was beginning to dissipate. The truck hit a guardrail on the shoulder of the road; rebounded onto the road; sideswiped a sedan; then landed on the southbound lane where it hit a Honda Civic head-on. The airbags deployed and the vehicles were totaled.
Local fire department rescue had to remove the doors and cut through the seatbelts of the vehicles to extricate the victims. The female S10 driver and her passenger along with the driver of the Civic were transported to a nearby hospital. They were treated for moderate bodily injuries.
Authorities say to expect road closures both directions on Brea Canyon and southbound Freeway 57 off-ramp until 11:00 a.m. The accident is investigated by California Highway Patrol.
