Ed Norris, Radio Personality, is Seriously Injured After Avoiding an Accident

Posted on April 30, 2013

Baltimore radio personality Ed Norris is recuperating at home following last week’s accident in northern Harford County in which he was injured while avoiding a collision between his motorcycle and a truck.

Motorcycle Accident

Norris, the popular host of the morning Norris & Davis Show on 105.7-FM The Fan, was released from the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and will be out at least the rest of this week, Steve Davis, his co-host, told listeners on their show Monday morning.

Davis said he had visited Norris at his Carroll County home on Sunday and that his partner was slowly recovering. Davis mentioned Norris broke some ribs and one of his arms was black and blue.

Norris did not reply to a request for an interview through his work e-mail. The message box for his cell phone was full, when a reporter attempted calling him Monday evening and again on Tuesday morning.

Maryland State Police said Norris, who turned 53 in early April, was injured when he laid down his Victory motorcycle while in motion to avoid hitting a box truck that had turned in front him from Route 161 in Darlington, while Norris was traveling north on Route 1 shortly before 2:30 p.m. on April 24.

The vehicles did not strike each other as a result of Norris’ defensive action, a State Police spokesman said last week; however, Norris’ injuries were severe enough to warrant flying him to shock trauma by a State Police Medevac.

The driver of the box truck, Dedrick Jamal McClain, of Windsor Mill in Baltimore County, was listed at fault on the State Police accident report. According to online court records, McClain received a citation for failing to yield the right of way but was not listed in the record as having caused an accident. The truck he was driving is owned by Ward Trucking LLC of Altoona, Pa.

A motorcycle enthusiast, Norris occasionally talks about safety issues on his radio program. He is a former Maryland State Police superintendent and former Baltimore City Police commissioner.
