3 Years Old Boy Suffers Critical Injuries in Hit-and-Run Crash In Los Angeles, CA
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 13, 2022) – Three-year-old Dominick Zelaya and his mother, Elsa Zelaya, were struck by a hit-and-run driver on October 1 in South Los Angeles, and authorities are asking for help from the public to find the suspect.
Dominick suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, which occurred where 80th Street and Broadway are located in the Florence neighborhood.
According to Los Angeles Police, the pair were walking across the street when a vehicle–described as a compact SUV, black in color–hit them. Authorities say the vehicle was traveling at a fast speed at the time of the crash.
The impact of the crash threw Dominick in the air, and he landed on the ground, which was a second impact for him, according to police.
Police said Elsa suffered injuries that were described as minor.
Authorities made a public appeal for help, and published photos of the suspect vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash.
Investigators are continuing their work, and if anyone has information about the crash, the person can contact Dolores Chavez, who is a detective, or Luis Herrera, who is an officer with Los Angeles Police.
