A 6-year-old boy was killed on Sunday in an alcohol-related crash, according to officials in the Southern California area.
The accident happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Main and Pujol streets in Temecula, according to the Riverside County Fire Department said.
The unidentified boy reportedly ran into the street from behind a parked car that was sitting on the street when he was hit by a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Bradley Megginson Jr. It is unclear if he was running after a ball or toy. There is speculation as to whether or not he had supervision at the time of the fatal accident. The boy was not identified due to his young age and minor status.
The boy was transported to a local hospital where he later died and was pronounced to be deceased, according to police statements after the fact.
Megginson, of Temecula, was not injured in the crash and was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
He is being held on $75,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
The charge entails hefty fines and many years in prison for the driver. It is unclear whether a civil suit will be filed against the driver from the family and friends of the child victim of the accident.
