At about 1:00 a.m. a woman was traveling near the connector ramps of the 94 and 163 highways in her BMW Z series vehicle when it went airborne. Witnesses claim the vehicle was at least 30 feet in the air and rolled multiple times before landing on Interstate 5 near Pershing Drive.

San Diego Fire Department struggled for nearly 20 minutes to extricate the woman from her vehicle. The top of the car had been smashed almost flush with the trunk and the hood. The woman was wearing a seatbelt and survived. She was transported to the hospital and treated for head injuries.

Police are investigating the connector ramps to determine what caused the woman’s vehicle to go airborne.
