Bus Crashes into Multiple Vehicles and Taco Stand in Willowbrook, Killing One Person, Injuring Others

WILLOWBROOK, CA (September 3, 2019) – Early in the morning on Sunday, one person was killed and others suffered serious injuries when a Metro bus smashed into multiple vehicles and a taco stand in Willowbrook. The September 1 incident occurred in the vicinity of 131st Street and Alameda Street in the South Los Angeles unincorporated area of Willowbrook.

The time was roughly 2:00 a.m.

According to Jesus Sanchez, who is an officer with the California Highway Patrol, the Metro bus, for reasons that are not known, hit a vehicle described as a Honda SUV. The bus smashed into other cars parked in the area. It then slammed into a taco stand where people had been standing.

Reports say roughly ten people were at the curb when the incident happened. Two people suffered injuries that were described as serious. Responders transported them to a hospital. One of the victims died.

According to witnesses, the victim—identified only as a man—was trapped beneath a van. The identity of the victim, including his name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.

The identity of the other victim who was taken to the hospital has not been reported.

According to Sanchez, other people in the area of the incident suffered injuries that were described as minor. None of their identities have been reported.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash. None of the passengers who were aboard the bus were injured, according to reports.

Investigators are working to understand what caused the incident. They are gathering details and information.
