Woman Killed in Crash Involving Suspected DUI Driver In Whittier
WHITTIER, CA (November 25, 2019) – Mireya Rivera Avila was killed in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver early in the morning on Sunday in Whittier. The November 24 incident occurred on Colima Road in the 7700 block, near Mar Vista Street and to the north of it.
The time was roughly 5:15 a.m., the Whittier Police Department and Orange County coroner’s office said.
Reports say the vehicle in which Avila had been riding as a passenger smashed into a tree. Responders arrived and transported Avila, and the man who had been driving the vehicle, to the hospital. Avila was pronounced deceased at UCI Medical Center a little before 7:00 a.m. She was 23 years old.
The injuries the driver suffered have not been reported and his current condition is not known. Authorities suspect the man was driving under the influence (DUI). The man’s identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
