Young Driver Dies on I-405 Freeway in Westminster After Striking Rear-end of Big-rig
WESTMINSTER, CA (August 24, 2018) – A young driver died Thursday when his vehicle struck the rear-end of a big-rig on the I-405 Freeway in Westminster.
The accident occurred at roughly 12:40 a.m., north of Goldenwest Street in the lanes of the freeway that head northbound.
According to reports, a man—identified as a 19-year-old resident of Huntington Beach—had been traveling in a Honda Accord, at a speed that is not known, in the number 3 lane of the freeway. The big-rig was slowing for traffic due to construction that was farther ahead.
California Highway Patrol said the young driver was in the same lane as the big-rig that was going 5 miles per hour, and for a reason that is not known, the young man’s car crashed into the rear-end of the big-rig.
The person who had been driving the truck was identified as a 31 year old. The truck’s driver was not injured.
The identity of the young driver who died has not yet been released.
