Grisol Lupita Ramirez Killed by Hit-and-run Driver After Exiting Disabled Car on 10 Freeway in West Covina
WEST COVINA, CA (January 7, 2019) – Grisol Lupita Ramirez, who exited a car after it was disabled in West Covina on the 10 Freeway, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night. The January 5 accident occurred in the freeway’s westbound lanes, close to Holt Avenue.
The time was roughly 11:30 p.m.
Reports say Ramirez—identified as a 22 year old—had been a passenger, seated in the front seat on a Honda Civic driven by Jesus Angel Reyes. Reyes was traveling in the freeway’s number 4 lane, and going roughly 65 to 70 miles an hour, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car began to hydroplane, and Reyes lost control of the car. The car struck the barrier in the center of the freeway, and came to a stop in the freeway’s number 2 lane, pointed the wrong way.
Reports say that Ramirez exited the car, and walked into the number one lane, into another vehicle’s line of travel. The California Highway Patrol says that driver of the vehicle that hit Ramirez did not stop and remain at the scene.
Respondents from the West Covina Fire Department arrived and pronounced Ramirez deceased. According to the California Highway Patrol, mud was covering one of the freeway’s lanes, and vehicles were sliding.
It is not clear from reports how many vehicles were involved in the crash. A report said seven vehicles had collided. Some vehicles were immobile in the mud layer that covered the road. One vehicle was reported to have rolled over onto its side.
