Santa Monica Hit-and-Run Crash Suspect Arrested
SANTA MONICA, CA (January 13, 2024) – Walter Williams Larkins, 37, of Malibu, was arrested Monday morning, January 13, in connection with a hit-and-run crash that occurred in Santa Monica.
The incident took place around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and California Avenue. According to the Santa Monica Police Department, Larkins was driving a green Toyota Highlander on the wrong side of Ocean Avenue, heading toward Pacific Coast Highway.
Walter Larkins Was Reported To Be Following National Guard Vehicles In An Unauthorized Area
Larkins was reportedly following National Guard vehicles into an area that was closed to traffic and designated for emergency vehicles only. When a Santa Monica officer motioned for him to stop, Larkins ignored the signal and continued driving through a checkpoint. In the process, he struck the officer’s foot as he fled the scene.
The injured officer was treated by paramedics and transported to a hospital for a soft tissue injury.
Police later located Larkins on the 2200 block of Pico Boulevard, where they pulled him over and arrested him. He faces charges of felony hit-and-run and several vehicle code violations.
